Body image has become a major problem in society especially recently. Although eating disorders affect men and women, a growing number of women are developing body dysmorphia. Body dysmorphia is an unhealthy obsession with body image especially in regard to weight and other aspects of physical appearance. This is considered a mental illness because it causes a lot of psychological distress and anxiety.

Body dysmorphia can lead to different eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa. When someone is showing anorexia nervosa signs they are not automatically expected to be stick thin. Having that extremely skinny and emaciated look is a stereotype that many people with eating disorders face. Not all eating disorders involve binging and purging, some actually involve the over consumption of food, and the person can actually be extremely overweight. Every alcoholic or drug addict has a family. It can be small or big, or even hard to find. Maybe they have gone in hiding from their loved one, or the opposite has happened and their addict or alcoholic offspring is nowhere to be found. Maybe a son is wondering where his mother is at all hours of the night.

Addiction is known as a family illness for more than one reason. Some say that it is hereditary, meaning that addicted parents breed addicted children. Family interventions exist for a reason and are the most popular type of intervention. It requires a mediator that is both a professional and someone who truly knows what they are doing. This includes hand selecting each family member that will be present, as well as grooming them for how they will behave and what they will say. One cannot let self will run riot during the actual intervention, as emotions will obviously be high and everyone will want their chance at breaking down the alcoholic or addict. While their intention is obviously helping the person; the addict rarely accepts it with ease and comfort. So, a family intervention will involve an atmosphere that can promote the greatest hope for successfully getting a person to treatment, when the interventionist determines it will be most effective. The ability to determine and utilize timing will be key.
